Forefeast of the Exaltation of the Cross
The Dedication of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre
Sunday Troparion, Tone 1: When the stone had been sealed by the Jews, * and the soldiers were guarding Thine immaculate Body, * Thou didst arise on the third day, O Savior, * granting life unto the world. * Wherefore, the Hosts of the heavens cried out to Thee, O Life-giver: * Glory to Thy Resurrection, O Christ! * Glory to Thy Kingdom! * Glory to Thy dispensation, O only Lover of mankind!
Troparion of the Dedication of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, Tone 4: Thou didst show forth the beauty * of the holy dwelling-place of Thy glory here below, O Lord, * like the splendor of the firmament on high. * Establish it for all ages, *
and through the Theotokos * accept the supplications we unceasingly offer unto Thee therein, * O Thou life and resurrection of all.
Troparion of the Forefeast of the Exaltation of the Cross, Tone 4: O Lord, we offer unto Thee in supplication * the life-creating Cross of Thy goodness, * which Thou hast bestowed upon us, *
unworthy though we are. * Save Thou all Orthodox Christians, and this Thy city, * which entreateth Thee through the Theotokos, *
O Thou Who alone lovest mankind.
Sunday Kontakion, Tone 1: As God, Thou didst arise from the tomb in glory, * and Thou didst raise the world together with Thyself. * And mortal nature praiseth Thee as God, * and death hath vanished. * And Adam danceth, O Master, * and Eve, now freed from fetters, rejoiceth as she crieth out: * Thou art He, O Christ, that grantest unto all resurrection.
Kontakion of the Dedication of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, Tone 2: Grant inner enlightenment and spiritual renewal of heart * unto those who with faith celebrate the sacred dedication of the temple of Thy house, * which it was Thy good pleasure to have built unto Thy divine name, * O Thou Who art glorious in the saints.

Parish News Last Friday was Silouan Dudley’s nameday. Many years!
Tomorrow is the great feast of the Exaltation of the Precious and Life-giving Cross. Vigil is tonight at 6:00pm. Divine is tomorrow at 9:00am Remember to make prostrations before the Precious Cross. The Cross will remain out through next Sunday, so remember to make prostrations before it all week through next Sunday. We do not make prostrations otherwise on Sundays. Please remember to read the troparion and kontakion of the Exaltation (found in your Prayerbook) at your morning and evening prayers this week.
Today at the end of Divine Liturgy, Stephen Camp will be made a catechumen. Glory to God! Please remember him in your prayers.
There will be no Sunday Bible study or Friday Compline for the next two weeks. Reader John will lead the Akathists on Wednesdays.
Next Sunday we begin our new Sunday school year. Matushka will make an announcement about this at the end of Divine Liturgy today. We now have a new curriculum. There will be two classes. One is for ages 5 and up, taught by Andrea Sullivan. We need another teacher to assist her. We also would like to have a class for the 3- and 4-year-olds, but we need teachers. All parents and godparents will be expected to help the teachers from time to time.
On Sunday, October 10, Robert Kuchuk and his son Samuel will be baptized into Christ. Glory to God! Marcus Bursik will be Robert’s sponsor. Reader John Kachelmeyer and Gabriella Damiano will be Samuel’s godparents. Please remember them all in your prayers.
On Sunday, October 24, a class of about 15 students will be visiting us from Canisius College.
The Hellenic Church of the Annunciation is holding its Advent Retreat on Saturday, November 6. All are invited. Please see the flyer on the bulletin board for details.
Please remember in your prayers those traveling: Vadim Zharkoff and Reader John Kachelmeyer.
If you are visiting today:
There are service books underneath the candle stand that you may borrow and follow along in. If you get lost, ask your neighbor to help you find the page. As you can see, we stand for most of the service. If you are not accustomed to this, please feel free to sit if you feel the need. No one will mind! You should still stand during the Scripture readings and when the priest comes through. In the Orthodox tradition, women cover their heads in church, and extra scarves can be borrowed from the candle stand at the entrance. You will see people making the sign of the cross and bowing. Feel free to follow suit or not, however you are comfortable. Again, no one will mind either way. Feel free to venerate (kiss) the icons and purchase a candle to light. Commemoration slips for Orthodox, living and reposed may be placed on the tray by the candle stand. Please write down how many prosphora you would like (suggested donation: $1/ea.) At the end of the service, you may come forward to venerate the hand-cross if you wish. At our parish we do not pass a collection plate. Gifts are voluntary and can be left at the candle stand. Anyone who wishes to receive Holy Communion must be an Orthodox Christian and make their Confession beforehand. Please speak with Fr. Peter for more information.
