Repose and Second Finding of the Relics of the Venerable Seraphim, Wonderworker of Sarov
Sunday Troparion, Tone 6: Angelic hosts were above Thy tomb, * and they that guarded Thee became as dead. * And Mary stood by the grave seeking Thine immaculate body. * Thou didst despoil hades and wast not tempted by it. * Thou didst meet the Virgin and didst grant us life. * O Thou Who didst rise from the dead, O Lord, glory be to Thee.
Troparion of the Forefeast, Tone 4: Make ready, O Zebulon! * Adorn thyself, O Naphtali! * O River Jordan, leaping up, * receive thou the Master Who cometh to be baptized! * Rejoice, O Adam, with our first mother! * Hide not yourselves as ye did before in paradise; * for He that beheld you naked hath revealed Himself, * that He may clothe you in your primordial raiment. * Christ hath appeared, desiring to make all creation new!
Troparion of St. Seraphim, Tone 4: From thy youth thou didst love Christ, O blessed one, * and ardently desiring to work for Him alone * thou didst struggle in the wilderness with constant prayer and labor; * and having acquired love for Christ with compunction of heart, * thou didst prove to be the beloved favorite of the Mother of God. * Wherefore, we cry to thee: * Save us by thy prayers, O Seraphim, our holy father.
Sunday Kontakion, Tone 6: Having by His life bestowing hand raised up all the dead out of the dark abysses, * Christ God, the Giver of life, hath bestowed the Resurrection upon the fallen human race; * for He is the Savior of all, * the Resurrection, and the Life, and the God of all.
Kontakion of St. Seraphim, Tone 2: Having left the beauty of the world * and what is corrupt in it, O Saint, * thou didst settle in Sarov Monastery. * And having lived there an angelic life, * thou wast for many the way of salvation. * Wherefore, Christ hath glorified thee, O Father Seraphim, * and hath enriched thee with the gift of healing and miracles. * And so we cry to thee: * Rejoice, O Seraphim, our holy father.
Kontakion of the Forefeast, Tone 4: In the running waters of Jordan today * the Lord cried to John: * Be not afraid to baptize Me, * for, I am come to save Adam, * the first-fashioned man.

Our annual parish meeting will take place on Sunday, February 5, after Divine Liturgy. All members must attend. We will be voting on the 2012 budget, and voting for the parish council positions of treasurer (currently Natalie Moczerniak) and a lay member (currently Anthony Damiano). If you are not yet a member of the parish, please speak with Natalie Moczerniak. Only dues-paying members in good standing may vote.
Please remember in your prayers those traveling: Galina Bahanovich, Silouan Dudley, Benjamin Jackson, Styliana Jackson, and Vadim Zharkoff. Galina is going to California for several months. Benjamin is moving to Bogota, Colombia. Matushka is flying down with him and will return in two weeks.
If you are visiting today: There are service books underneath the candle stand that you may borrow and follow along in. If you get lost, ask your neighbor to help you find the page. As you can see, we stand for most of the service. If you are not accustomed to this, please feel free to sit if you feel the need. No one will mind! You should still stand during the Scripture readings and when the priest comes through. In the Orthodox tradition, women cover their heads in church, and extra scarves can be borrowed from the candle stand at the entrance. You will see people making the sign of the cross and bowing. Feel free to follow suit or not, however you are comfortable. Again, no one will mind either way. Feel free to venerate (kiss) the icons and purchase a candle to light. Commemoration slips for Orthodox, living and reposed may be placed on the tray by the candle stand. Please write down how many prosphora you would like (suggested donation: $1/ea.) At the end of the service, you may come forward to venerate the hand-cross if you wish. At our parish we do not pass a collection plate. Gifts are voluntary and can be left at the candle stand. Anyone who wishes to receive Holy Communion must be an Orthodox Christian and make their Confession beforehand. Please speak with Fr. Peter for more information.Confessions are heard at all evening services.
