Afterfeast of the Dormition
Martyr Myron of Cyzicus
Sunday Troparion, Tone 3: Let the heavens be glad; let earthly things rejoice; * for the Lord hath wrought might with his arm. * He hath trampled down death by death; * the firstborn of the dead hath He become. * From the belly of Hades hath he delivered us * and hath granted to the world great mercy.
Troparion of the Dormition, Tone 1: In giving birth thou didst preserve thy virginity; * in thy dormition thou didst not forsake the world, O Theotokos. * Thou wast translated unto life, / since thou art the Mother of Life; * and by thine intercessions dost thou deliver our souls from death.
Troparion of St. Theodore Stratelates, Tone 4: By true strategy, O trophy-bearer * thou wast an illustrious general of the Heavenly King, O Theodore. * For thou didst wisely arm thyself with the weapons of faith, * and didst utterly annihilate the hordes of demons, * and didst prove a victorious athlete, * wherefore with faith * we ever call thee blessed.
Troparion of St. Theodore the Tyro, Tone 2: Great are the triumphs of faith! * The holy martyr Theodore rejoiced in a fountain of flame as in refreshing water. * For having been made a whole burnt offering by fire, * he was offered as a sweetbread to the Trinity. * By his prayers, O Christ God, save our souls.
Hieromartyr Myron of Cyzicus Tone 4: As a sacred alabaster vessel of virtue, Thou didst serve faithfully in the Church of Christ and didst contest joyfully as a martyr . Hence, by the fragrance of the gifts that were given to thee by God, O Hieromartyr Myron,Thou dost dispel the stench of the passions from our souls and dost grant us forgiveness by thy prayers
Sunday Kontakion, Tone 3: Thou didst arise today from the tomb, O Merciful One, * and didst lead us out of the gates of death.* Today Adam danceth and Eve rejoiceth; * and together with them both the Prophets and the Patriarchs * unceasingly praise the divine might of Thine authority.
Kontakion of St. Theodore Stratelates, Tone 2: Armed with faith and courage of soul, * and having taken in thy hand the Word of God as a spear, * thou didst conquer the enemy, * O glory of martyrs, Theodore. * With them cease not to intercede with Christ God for us all.
Kontakion of St. Theodore the Tyro, Tone 8: Having received the faith of Christ in thy heart as an inner shield, * thou didst overcome all the opposing forces, O great champion, * and thou hast been crowned with a heavenly crown, O Theodore, * for thou art eternally invincible.
Kontakion of St. Myron, Tone 4: Having loved Christ from childhood *
and observed His divine commandments, O all-glorious one, * thou didst make haste to Him wholly, O most honorable Myron, * and dost pray earnestly with the angels. * Ask forgiveness of sins for all who honor thy memory.
Kontakion of the Dormition, Tone 2: The grave and death could not hold the Theotokos, * who is sleepless in her intercessions and an unfailing hope in her mediations. * For as the Mother of Life she was translated unto life * by Him Who dwelt in her ever-virgin womb.
Instead of “It is truly meet…” we chant the Irmos of the 9th Ode of the First Canon of the feast, First Tone:
Refrain: The angels, having beheld the Dormition of the Most pure One, *were struck with wonder, * at how the Virgin went up from earth to heaven.
Irmos: In thee, O Virgin without spot, * the bounds of nature are overcome * for childbirth remains virgin * and death is betrothed to life. *
O Theotokos, Virgin after bearing child and alive after death, * do thou ever save thine inheritance.

+ As you can see, we stand for most of the service. If you are not accustomed to this, please feel free to sit if you feel the need. No one will mind! You should still stand during the Scripture readings and when the priest comes through.
+ In the Orthodox tradition, women cover their heads in church, and extra scarves can be borrowed from the candle stand at the entrance.
+ You will see people making the sign of the cross and bowing. Feel free to follow suit or not, however you are comfortable. Again, no one will mind either way.
+ Feel free to venerate (kiss) the icons and purchase a candle to light. Commemoration slips for Orthodox, living and reposed may be placed on the tray by the candle stand. Please write down how many prosphora you would like (suggested donation: $1/ea.)
+ At the end of the service, you may come forward to venerate the hand-cross if you wish.
