Воистину Воскресе!

Christ is Risen! Truly He is Risen!
April 5/18, 2010
3rd Sunday of Pascha
Commemoration of the Myrrh-bearing Women:
Mary Magdalene,
Mary the wife of Cleopas,
Joanna,
Salome the mother of the Apostles James and John,
Susanna, and Mary and Martha the sisters of Lazarus
Righteous Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus

Troparion of the Resurrection, Tone 2: When Thou didst descend unto death, O Life Immortal, * then didst Thou slay Hades with the lightning of Thy Divinity. * And when Thou didst also raise the dead out of the nethermost depths, * all the hosts of the heavens cried out: * O Life-giver, Christ our God, glory be to Thee!

Troparion of the Righteous Joseph, Tone 2: The Noble Joseph, taking Thine immaculate Body down from the tree * and having wrapped It in pure linen and spices, * laid it for burial in a new tomb, * but on the third day, Thou didst arise, O Lord, * granting great mercy to the world.

Troparion of the Myrrh-bearing Women, Tone 2: Unto the Myrrh-bearing women did the angel cry out as he stood by the tomb: * Myrrh is meet for the dead, * but Christ hath proved to be a stranger to corruption. * But cry out, “Lord is risen, * granting to the world great mercy!”

Kontakion of the Myrrh-bearers, Tone 2: When Thou didst cry “Rejoice!” unto the Myrrh-bearers, * Thou didst make the lamentation of Eve the first mother to cease by Thy Resurrection, O Christ God, * and Thou didst bid Thine Apostles to preach * the Savior is risen from the grave.

Kontakion of Pascha, Tone 8: Thou didst descend into the tomb, O Immortal. * Thou didst destroy the power of death. * In victory didst Thou arise, O Christ God, * proclaiming “Rejoice!” to the Myrrh-bearing women, * granting peace to Thine Apostles * and bestowing Resurrection on the fallen.

Parish News

 The Bible study on the Book of Revelation resumes today after coffee hour. All are welcome to attend!

 This Wednesday’s Akathist is for the Life-bearing Tomb of Christ. Please remember that attending the midweek services is a helpful way to prepare for Holy Communion because they include the three canons and one akathist, which are part of the normal preparation for the Sacrament. Confessions are also heard after these services.

 Please remember in your prayers those traveling: John Kachelmeyer and Oleg Khodak.

A TASTE OF ORTHODOXY
Sunday, May 16, 2010
5:00 -8:00 PM
Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church
200 Como Park Blvd., Cheektowaga, NY 14211

Join us for A Taste of Orthodoxy to sample foods from Orthodox Countries, entertainment, and meet other local Orthodox Christians!  Featuring keynote speaker, IOCC Development Officer, Louis Zagami!  All proceeds to benefit the work of IOCC, 75% of which will be earmarked for our brothers and sisters in Christ in Haiti, and 25% will go to the IOCC general fund.
A free will donation fund will be collected at the event (suggested amount $20.00). For more information contact Gabriella Damiano (716) 474-1127.

If you are visiting today:

 There are service books underneath the candle stand that you may borrow and follow along in. If you get lost, ask your neighbor to help you find the page.

 As you can see, we stand for most of the service. If you are not accustomed to this, please feel free to sit if you feel the need. No one will mind! You should still stand during the Scripture readings and when the priest comes through.

 In the Orthodox tradition, women cover their heads in church, and extra scarves can be borrowed from the candle stand at the entrance.

 You will see people making the sign of the cross and bowing. Feel free to follow suit or not, however you are comfortable. Again, no one will mind either way.

 Feel free to venerate (kiss) the icons and purchase a candle to light. Commemoration slips for Orthodox, living and reposed may be placed on the tray by the candle stand. Please write down how many prosphora you would like (suggested donation: $1/ea.)

 At the end of the service, you may come forward to venerate the hand-cross if you wish.

 At our parish we do not pass a collection plate. Gifts are voluntary and can be left at the candle stand.

Anyone who wishes to receive Holy Communion must be an Orthodox Christian and make their Confession beforehand. Please speak with Fr. Peter for more information.
