6th Sunday of Pascha
Healing of the Blind Man
Sunday Troparion, Tone 5: Let us, O faithful, praise and worship the Word * Who is co-unoriginate with the Father and the Spirit, * and Who was born of the Virgin for our salvation; * for He was pleased to ascend the Cross in the flesh * and to endure death, * and to raise the dead by His glorious Resurrection.
Kontakion of the Blind Man, Tone 4: Blinded in the eyes of my soul, * I draw nigh unto Thee, O Christ, * like the man blind from his birth, * and in repentance I cry to Thee: * Thou art the exceeding radiant Light of those in darkness.
Kontakion of Pascha, Tone 8: Thou didst descend into the tomb, O Immortal, * Thou didst destroy the power of death. * In victory didst Thou arise, O Christ God, * proclaiming “Rejoice!” to the myrrh-bearing women; * granting peace to Thine apostles, * and bestowing resurrection on the fallen.
Today’s Readings
Epistle: Acts 16:16-34
Gospel: John 9:1-38
Instead of “It is truly meet…” we chant the Irmos of the 9th Ode of the Canon of the feast, first Tone:
Refrain: The angel cried unto her that is full of grace: Rejoice, O pure Virgin! And again I say, rejoice! For thy Son is risen from the grave on the third day, and hath raised the dead, O ye people, be joyful!
Irmos: Shine, shine, O new Jerusalem, for the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee; dance now and be glad, O Zion, and do thou exult, O pure Theotokos, in the arising of Him Whom thou didst bear.
Parish News Happy Mother’s Day! At the end of Divine Liturgy we will serve a short moleben.
Last Thursday was the nameday of Bishop George of Mayfield, Reader George Hammond and Alexandra Gregorio. Many years!
The Parish Council will meet today at coffee hour. The Bible study will resume next week.
Fish may be eaten this Wednesday, the Leavetaking (Apodosis) of Pascha.
This Thursday is the Feast of the Ascension. From Wednesday evening we will no longer sing “Christ is risen” or greet one another with these words. Vigil: 6:30pm
Ascension-Wednesday evening, and Divine Liturgy: 9:00am Thursday morning. As always for a major feast, Orthodox Christians are expected to prepare for and receive Holy Communion. Those who have made their confession this weekend need not do so again for the
Ascension, unless you feel the need to. Even if you are unable to attend Divine Liturgy, you should still attend as much of the Vigil as possible.
Bishop George of Mayfield will be visiting our parish June 19-20. If anyone would like to host him and his subdeacon in their home, please let Fr. Peter know.
Please remember John Kachelmeyer in your prayers as he drives back from Long Island.
Fr. Mykola needs volunteers to help him bake for the “Taste of Orthodoxy” next Sunday (see below). He will be baking Wednesday-Saturday starting at 7:00am.

If you are visiting today: There are service books underneath the candle stand that you may borrow and follow along in. If you get lost, ask your neighbor to help you find the page. As you can see, we stand for most of the service. If you are not accustomed to this, please feel free to sit if you feel the need. No one will mind! You should still stand during the Scripture readings and when the priest comes through. In the Orthodox tradition, women cover their heads in church, and extra scarves can be borrowed from the candle stand at the entrance. You will see people making the sign of the cross and bowing. Feel free to follow suit or not, however you are comfortable. Again, no one will mind either way. Feel free to venerate (kiss) the icons and purchase a candle to light. Commemoration slips for Orthodox, living and reposed may be placed on the tray by the candle stand. Please write down how many prosphora you would like (suggested donation: $1/ea.) At the end of the service, you may come forward to venerate the hand-cross if you wish. At our parish we do not pass a collection plate. Gifts are voluntary and can be left at the candle stand. Anyone who wishes to receive Holy Communion must be an Orthodox Christian and make their Confession beforehand. Please speak with Fr. Peter for more information.Confessions are heard at all evening services.
